# Making Iron

Making Iron is a major milestone that will unlock the Iron Age and give you access to the Vanilla Furnace and Tinker's Construct.

Iron is obtained in a Bloomery which is a multiblock structure made with Bronze and Sandy Bricks. Let's see what you need for it and how you can make it. 

* 1x Bloomery
* 7x Sandy Bricks
* 1x Sandy Brick Tuyere
* At least 1x Bellows

While, for the Sandy Bricks, you'll need to get into [Construction Paste Processing](https://decursio-team-1.gitbook.io/wiki/modpacks/decursio-project-expert/guides/construction-paste-processing-wip), for the Bellows you'll have to get into [Leather Working](https://decursio-team-1.gitbook.io/wiki/modpacks/decursio-project-expert/guides/leather-working-wip).

After you get the materials, you'll have to build the structure.

## Building the Bloomery

 1\. Place down the **Bloomery Block**.

 2\. Add a Layer consisting of **1x Sandy Brick Tuyere** and **3x Sandy Bricks**.

 3\. Add a Layer consisting of 4x Sandy Bricks (these can also be 4x Sandy Brick Stairs).

4\. Finally, add at least **1x Bellows** (You can add 1x more)**.**

Now, that you have the Bloomery, let's see how you can use it.

## Making Iron

To obtain Iron, you'll need the following ingredients:

* 8x Iron Dust
* 8x Charcoal
* 1x Fire Starter
* 1x Pickaxe

Now let's see what you need to do with these. Here's a video tutorial:

As you can see in the video, after the fire was started, you need to pump the Bellows. This action must be performed for 4 MC Hours (around 3 minutes). A [2nd Bellows](#user-content-fn-1)[^1] will NOT reduce the amount of time required, but it will ensure that you'll get Iron, and not just a Cold Bloom. If you DO eventually obtain a Cold Bloom, don't worry, as you'll be able to get Iron from it later, in a Furnace, but for now, the Bloom won't be of use to you.
